And when you don't claim it, when you pretend like, oh, I don't care, you can avoid all that vulnerability.

It's like why kids decide that they don't like a sport before they suck at the sport.

Or why someone decides they just don't like a person before the other person reveals that they don't like them.

Or why you'll go out with someone who would be lucky to have you, but never go after the person you'd feel lucky to be with.

It's like all of this stuff is like, I really care.

I really want this thing.

And...

It's just everywhere.

It's why we joke about like, oh, I didn't even take a shower.

Because like to show that you really tried and you really care and you really want something to be a certain way is to just reveal like that you failed.

Or like, is there anything more icky than like you really did your best and worked hard at it and came up short?

So I think like it's just the layer of that is one thing, but then the layer under it is like, do we even know the thing we really want?

Is it so scary to say it out loud and then it's so scary to tell ourselves?

Like if you really admitted your like desire or your dream or what you wish your marriage would be, that is the ultimate like exposure of this deep care.

I think it's a little thing in the BMX deal, but if we're being honest, we all do that.
