Was this a strategic sort of political move?
Was a deal done to make this happen?
Yeah, I think there was, but it was much more internal Labour strategy than sort of a broader picture.
It's no secret that Keir Starmer has been under a lot of stress and a lot of strain for, well, since he started, effectively.
Yet there was so much hope when he won so convincingly two years ago.
A new future for our children.
That is what people will get.
And mark my words, we will deliver it.
But his first few months in office were tainted by minor scandals, like accepting free gifts, including designer glasses and tickets to a Taylor Swift concert.
On top of this, he pulled a series of policy U-turns.
Starting from, there was the big episode around winter energy payments and wanting to cut those and that
it sort of went to the heart of, is this what Labour voters really want a Labour government to be doing?
Couple that with the rise of reform, people love that, that we're saying, and you had a real pressure cooker for Prime Minister Starmer.
