Just how active are these fault lines underneath Auckland, about 10 close to the city centre, and what could they mean for the people living above them?
That's James Muirhead, a senior lecturer in environment at Auckland University.
He studies and writes about Auckland's seismic history and activity.
Now, before we get into the newly discovered fault lines, I want to start with a study he was involved in, which was just published.
It reveals that a fault line in Auckland is now considered active and
and could trigger a 6.8 magnitude earthquake if it ruptures.
