My early socialising and dating was in a pre-phone world, only just socialising.

I remember very clearly when I first saw my first mobile phones and all those things.

But it makes me realize, well, two things actually.

One is the excitement.

I think about because the 90s was my 20s, right?

I would go out on a night and you would have an amazing frisson with someone or a flirtation or whatever and then you would never, ever see that person ever again and there was no way to track them down.

And it was wildly exciting.

See, I'd never experienced that.

Yeah, you might just bump into them somewhere.

I remember there was this guy.

I was so crazy about him.

I'd had this evening with him in a bar where nothing had happened but we'd been flirting, flirting, and I gave him my number.

And in those days someone would call you and if you weren't home, you missed the call.

And my flatmate answered the phone and I wasn't there and I was like –

And what did he say?

What did he sound like?

And how was his tone of voice?

Oh, my God.

And I never did get to go on that date with that guy.
