But then in our planning meeting, M. Vernon tells me she's still being asked to smile.

I think you age out of being asked to smile if you're a civilian.

Obviously, if you're J-Lo or Hannah Waddingham, you're not aging out of it.

But I haven't been asked to smile since I was 35.

No one's expecting a middle-aged woman to smile.
