It's just that people do have a lot more cash on hand to spend on these things like buybacks and also capital expenditures. matched

So it's not necessarily that CapEx, which used to be where the largest spending was, has come down. matched

And in fact, CapEx grew steadily in the first half of the year. matched

the buyback boom has just been so pronounced this year. matched

And it's really interesting what's driving it. matched

The answer is really Apple and a small number of other companies that account for most of this growth. matched

Almost 80% of the growth in buybacks this year has been in 10 companies, and Apple alone is about a quarter of the growth. matched

So it's really just this select group that is choosing to reward shareholders and matched

use their cash this way. matched

And it is kind of like a fascinating development to watch because of how all of these things are kind of coalescing at this point of the calendar year. matched

We've got the Fed meeting next week, and they're expected to lay out some projections for the coming year. matched

So that could stoke worries about tighter financial conditions for companies and consumers. matched

So I think it's not just the blackout period alone, but it's that, again, on top of these other factors. matched

So it's like more than 80% of investors are expecting a rate increase next week and another one in December. matched

So it's really like all eyes, I would say, are on 2019 and kind of the projections there. matched
