They don't say we're going to do this song and it's not going to be playing a Christian.

We're going to go push it at pop.

Or does it just happen without you knowing about it?

Well, I mean, my job is to make the music.

And so like the – you know, when I – making that music, Keith Thomas had the brilliant music.

I came up with the lyric for Baby, Baby.

I think in my mind the music is the magic.

And I do think a lyric is important.

But when we delivered that song –

I think both record companies, because by then, Word Records, I was part of them, early on, they saw the draw to my concert.

They just said, I don't think this music is served sufficiently just in Christian bookstores, which is how you bought music then.

This is like talking about the dark ages, because it's all streaming now, but...

Without my knowledge or consent, maybe they talked to Dan Harrell, Mike Blanton, my managers, but they said, we're going to pursue talking to a record company for distribution, somebody that's not in the Christian music vein.

So they went to A&M.

I think they talked to Geffen.

I know they consulted with some different people, but they just felt that the people at A&M believed in me as an artist.

And so that was a few records where it was just distribution.
