I was 13.

I wasn't yet in high school, but it was really funny because we're all trying to be cool.

And this girl who I thought was mega cool, like I looked up to this girl.

I thought she was so cool and she was a smoker.

And I was like, oh yeah, I smoke.

And I'd never smoked before.

And so she was like, oh, really?

Hands me a cigarette.

And I took this inhale on the cigarette and I wanted to cough so bad.

And I did not.

I forced myself not to cough.

I blew that smoke out and I was cool.

And I smoked from then on.

Well, then when I got into high school a year later and my mom smoked, so it was easy.

I could smoke at home.

Like I could do it in my bedroom and like they didn't notice that there was smoke.

an extra smoke happening because I would just steal my mom's cigarettes too, you know?

And so when I got to be 14 and I was in high school, we actually had a smoking area in high school.

So it was totally normal for kids to go in between classes and have a cigarette.
