But we weren't getting the hard-to-reach parents.
We were getting the parents that were already sending their kids to early childhood or already started at five.
But some of those other ones that might have been sending their kids for six hours or not at all, we weren't getting them.
And so we developed a charitable trust.
and we work in an area with everybody.
We bring in Kāinga Ora and Ministry of Education and iwi and everyone saying, what are you already doing?
What can we do to support it?
And what do you want?
And we've come up with these kite that parents get four times a year.
And within them, there are things like Play-Doh, balls, scooters, poi, rakau, matching games, all sorts of different things that if you struggle to put food on the table, you can't afford these things.
And then we also have these little cards with this is what it develops.
And then on the back, little kiwakos to show it works.
show them actually using all of the equipment with the Play-Doh and some links to some great little early years Emily and things like that and a whānau liaison that actually supports them to say, actually,
What you're doing is great.
You know, one of our parents, a patched guy who didn't want to come into the centre and hadn't had a good experience, he came back and he was like, oh, my gosh.
I didn't know that actually sitting down next to my kid for three hours with a Play-Doh and chatting with him was doing him this, getting him ready for school.
It was fantastic.
So you enjoyed playing too?
So that's that side of things.
We've had so many more like that.
