Um, but that is very much part of their foreign policy.
Remember, this is a guy who who
was literally threatening to invade Greenland to the point that Europeans were mobilizing soldiers to defend it.
So we're not dealing with a rational actor here, and we have to be fully aware of that.
Um and and and that ultimately has to be what what drives our approach to this.

It it could be.
Uh it's very hard to fully you know, you it it's hard to if you d unless you're plugged into the Prime Minister's office to know exactly what their motives are.
One possible interpretation of all of this is that the whole thing has just been a stalling game.
uh and that we were only pretending to negotiate to drag this out, uh, because the closer we get to the midterms, um, the costlier this is gonna be politically for the Republicans and for Donald Trump.
And so um continuing to negotiate right up until august nineteenth.
Um and um putting out this thing where we'll we'll put retaliatory tariffs but they won't go into effect until sub s till September eighth.
one way of interpreting that would be we're just we're just drawing it out.
Um and and and I don't know whether that's the case or not.
The other
less encouraging um th theory would be that they were really intending to strike a deal and that the Americans just kinda overdid it.
uh and that they still want to get a deal.
And that they're hoping the Americans will give them some cover between now and September the eighth.
uh that that would allow us to capitulate and will allow us to accept a deal that isn't quite as bad as this one but might be more tolerable at least to to the prime minister's office.
So I don't know which is the right uh interpretation.
