It's not a particularly pleasant prospect, but I think people really under need to understand this that for all the hoopla and the hype that surrounded this.
Yeah, if we come out of this with some sort of deal, it will be a deal just on those matters and not on the larger trade negotiat trade relationship between the two countries.
Well th the there's two difficulties that any Canadian government uh face with this.
One is the US is much bigger than we are.
We we rely on them much more than they rely on us, so we're in a weak weaker bargaining position.
Um and point two is we have a president of the United States who's out of his mind.
Uh and who's not a rational actor.
He's not we've talked about this before, he he he you can't really deter him in conventional terms and you can't really appease him in conventional terms.
it's certainly a bad idea to try to appease him for the same reason it's usually a bad idea um to appease anybody that you're simply feeding the the appetite for more.
And that to the extent that he's a rational actor, that is certainly something you have to
be concerned about, but the alternate strategy of trying to determine, of trying to fight back, doesn't necessarily work either.
