I don't think, for instance, if this magazine was going now, I don't think we'd do it now because of the associations.
But a large part of this feature was about why can't we pull this stuff away from horrible people?
Also, at the time, you know, the kind of racist Billy Britton thing was at a very low ebb, right?

But the other thing that really wound people up was we got a fantastic illustration done for the opening spread by a guy called Michael Gillette, who also did illustrations for Elastica and for Saint-Etienne.
And it was the start of Dad's Army, with all the British fans pointing with the arrows.
And the headline was, Who do you think you are kidding, Mr. Cobain?
He hadn't shot himself yet.
He wasn't dead at this point.

So we basically covered all these bands that we thought fit the aesthetic of a new kind of music that was generated among our readers by people who were like our readers, like Jarvis, like Saint-Etienne, like Lawrence from Denim, who'd created this insane kind of 70s bubblegum pop thing called Denim, who are brilliant and are still brilliant.
And Luke Haynes and the auteurs.
And, you know, the idea that...
I mean, we were heartily sick of grunge because Nirvana, yes, great.
And in fact, brought to the magazine by Andy Perry, who was basically battering on my desk while I was kind of out of touch going, maybe we should do something on the Inspiral Carpet.
He's going, Nirvana, the people want destruction.
The people want noise.
