I'm going to edit this magazine.

I know what to do with it.

It needs to stop being like general for random person in our price buying records at random.

It needs to be for people like me.

Me and my mates who have a specific music taste are going to be, although I didn't know it at the time, they're going to be the people who make Britpop happen.

They're also going to be the people who make the massive rave explosion happen because we were all simultaneously listening to techno and the Walker Brothers.

We were listening to, you know, banging, fluffy bra, you know, house music and the Smiths at the same time.

And that was the thing that glued it all together.

You liked everything within that kind of framework of those kind of people.

Not you liked everything that was in our price, but there was a particular world that made sense.

New order fans.

New order fans, yeah.

Yes.

Yes, drug monkeys and football hooligans.

Yeah.

And that's what happened.

I honestly felt like, and again, this is going to sound terrible.

When Mark gave me the job, because they tried a couple of other people who weren't quite right.

And he took me for a pint in some pub on Beak Street or whatever, just around the corner from Carnaby Street.
