And finally an avant garde piece by the composer Steve Reich, Come Out, made up of loops of a phrase spoken by a black man involved in the Little Fruit Stand riot in Harlem in nineteen sixty four.
One of the earlier flashpoints in the ongoing conflict over civil rights that dominated the mid sixties.
Reich had taken the phrase, looped it, and put it out of phase with itself multiple times.
In I'm with the band, Pamela Debar of the GTO has talked about visiting the Magic Band's home and listening to that record, saying We smoked a lot of pot and Don put on a record called Come out so they can see it.
We lounged around the living room while a guy with a really deep voice repeated this phrase over and over and over until it turned into many different ideas.
Come out and expose yourself.
Come out and slit your wrists.
Come out and show me your soul.
come out and come into a bucket.
Come out and then go back in again.
When the record was over the needle skipped and skipped so we listened to that for a while too.
I personally could find no meaning in it, but I tried.

These three inspirations came together into the song, a step forward in Van Vliet's composition style.
After cutting those two tracks, the group moved on to a remake of Candy Corn, a track that had been recorded for both plain brown rapper and strictly personal.
But they never added the vocals because Van Vliet's cousin Victor Hayden, the one we talked about in the GTO's episode, came round with a copy of Strictly Personal.
The album had been released on Blue Thumb after all, apparently without the knowledge of any of the band members.
This meant that Van Vliet would have to write an entire new album's worth of material for the album on Bizarre Strait, and so sessions ended for the moment.
