and it would soon be the distribution partner of choice for many artists who wanted to put things out through their own labels.

Bizarre Straight, as we heard in the episode on the GTOs, would put out a whole range of artists, some of them truly excellent.

Sandy's album is here at last, produced by Ian Underwood.

But in particular, they were put out recordings by the Mothers of Invention and Frank Zappa Solo Projects.

The first of these was a double album titled Uncle Meat, which was created as the soundtrack for what was planned to be a film starring the mothers, for which a few sequences were shot around this time, but which wasn't actually finished until 1987, when Zappa created a new framing sequence around the unfinished footage and released it on VHS.

It's never had a DVD release, though you can find it on YouTube if you really want to.

Much of the footage for that film was documentary footage by a man named Ed Seaman, who had first started working with Zappa when Zappa had branched out into advertising.

Zappa had created the soundtrack for an animated commercial for Luden's Cough Drops, which Seaman had directed.

That actually got an award for the best music in a commercial, and for a short while it looked like Zappa might have a lucrative career in advertising music.

He dropped the idea, though, after the rejection of another ad he was asked to make, this one for Remington Mazers.

While Uncle Meat the film wasn't to be finished for nearly 20 years, Uncle Meat the album stood alone as one of the mother's best albums.

Uncle Meat was the last of what one might think of as the mother's New York period, the period of time where they had long residencies at the Garrick Theatre and recorded in Apostolic Studios.

And while the four albums worked on in that time period, Lumpy Gravy, We're Only In It For The Money, Cruising With Ruben And The Jets, and Uncle Meat, are all very different in style.

Zappa always claimed to have conceived of them all as part of the same work, saying later, it's all one album.

All the material in the albums is organically related, and if I had all the master tapes and I could take a razor blade and cut them apart and put it together again in a different order, it still would make one piece of music you can listen to.

Then I could take that razor blade and cut it apart and reassemble it a different way, and it still would make sense.

I could do this 20 ways.

The material is definitely related.

Some of these relations are not in the actual compositions, but in the packaging.

And in some cases, just in the minds of Zappa and the people he was working with.
