There's this crazy thing that you see.
with people who have addictive behaviors that violates everything we understand about the brain, everything, which is, remember we were saying like top-down control, like I'm not going to engage in this impulse, I'm not going to do it, I'm not going to do it.
When people are not able to suppress action, in particular in the case of addictive or compulsive behaviors,
And they decide to give that process over to a quote, higher power.
Could be God, could be for them nature, right?
Everyone's, you know, it's highly individual.
The success rates of people being able to suppress that behavior are astounding.
And everything we know about neuroscience and top-down inhibition of these impulsive circuits tell us the exact opposite should happen.
You're like, it's like saying, oh, I can't keep my car between the lane lines when I drive.
Like it's pulling me this way.
And so you know what I'm going to do?
I'm going to take my hands off the steering wheel.
And it magically stays in between the lane lines.
