If John Cornyn wins the general election this fall, he could become one of the longest serving senators in Texas history.
But first, he has to get past State Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has led or tied Cornyn in most polls for nearly a year, and fend off attacks from Congressman Wesley Hunt.
Most analysts expect none of the three candidates will win an outright majority in the March 3rd primary.
That would force a runoff between the top two contenders in May.

Menefee defeated fellow Democrat Amanda Edwards by a margin of more than two to one.
In a victory speech, Menefee told President Trump he would be hearing from Texas' 18th congressional district.
Menifee will almost immediately have to pivot to defend the seat in a Democratic primary against Congressman Al Green, the incumbent in Texas' 9th congressional district.
Green was drawn into the 18th during Texas' mid-decade redistricting last year.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott delayed this special election to fill Sylvester Turner's seat until last November, claiming Harris County had a troubled record of conducting elections and needed the extra time.
But many political analysts said Abbott was trying to preserve the GOP majority in Congress as long as possible.
More than one candidate in the race noted during the campaign that President Trump's signature tax and spending package passed last year by a single vote and might have failed if Turner's district had a sitting representative.
None of the candidates in November won more than 50 percent of the vote.
