you know, he came from, you know, way in the back of the pack, you know, finished strongly.

I mean, uh, he, uh, you know, uh, you know, he, it was a legitimate, his, his speed figure for the race, 105 was, uh, one of the best in several years.

So I, I guess I would have to say he, he's a legitimate horse, uh, uh, but we'll, uh, uh,

unfortunately not get really much of a further test for him in the Preakness on Saturday, because I think it's safe to say that this is maybe the worst Preakness ever.

This is unfortunately a continuation of a trend that has been going on for some time.

I mean, trainers nowadays don't like to run their horses fast.

with short rest.

They like to space races out maybe several weeks apart.

And increasingly, in the Preakness, the losers see no incentive to continue on from the Derby into the Preakness.

the winner of the Derby will come to the Preakness because he could win the Triple Crown.

You know, he's the most celebrated horse in the country.

You've got to take a shot at it.

But, I mean, there's an answer to all this, and that is something that's been batted around unsuccessfully for years, and it's just to change the timing of the races.

uh, you know, push the Preakness back to three weeks behind the Derby, run the Belmont sometime around Memorial Day, and you can eliminate this issue.

But, uh, uh, the racing, the racing industry is not necessarily one to make changes radically.

And, uh,

But if this year's fiasco doesn't prompt a real revision of the series, I can't imagine what they can do to prevent this from happening again.

Um, they, they, they might, uh, but, but again, you know, mile and a half races, uh, are, you know, have become kind of an anachronism in, in American racing.

I mean, if they're, let's say, and so trainers don't necessarily, uh, look to, to run horses at that distance, unless they think they're really cut out for the, uh,

the distance.
