The first time that a U.S.
leader has met a foreign leader at the air base since 1962, when John F. Kennedy met Harold McMillan.
The difference being that the U.K.
then and still is a close partner of the United States.
And China is America's paramount ally.

And, you know, what we've seen over the weekend is the Chinese state media cock a hoop over this symbolism.
And what this tells the people of China through state media is the United States president, the Chinese leader, are now equals.
And that is gold dust for Xi Jinping.
It's gold dust because next year he's got a big
Communist Party meeting where he's expecting to get a fourth five-year term in office, 20 years altogether, emperor for life.
But also, it's very, very significant for the Chinese people.
I mean, they know propaganda when they see it.
But what they're looking for really is for foreign leaders, foreign governments to
to endorse their leader and their system.
And that's exactly what we saw, that the number one hashtag on social media over the weekend was the US and China are now equals.
And pointing and specifically, specifically pointing attention to that greeting on the tarmac at Joint Air Base Andrews.
