It was a hard environment and you learn pretty quick.
But Mal had this capacity to straddle
that he would deliver as much hardness as was needed of him on the field in training, but had all the soft, nice stuff for an arm round the little the little lads and the new lads, showed us the ropes, taught us a few tricks.

Um but I'd also say like an original in terms of how he played.
There's the you ask people from the late great Gary Halpin or Liam Toland or Trev Brennan
Who played with Mal, and that's I've never actually played with someone like that.
So, you know, like to pint, like the sneaky fag, but won all the fitness tests.
Um languid stride, but when he sprinted was kind of top of the sprints charts, you know, highest leap, one of the best athletes in terms of pre-season measurement, but never did any training.
