doing this work with the sector to see what we can do to improve our own resilience and our capacity to grow.

Obviously, we want to grow things that can grow in our climate.

We're not talking about mangoes or citrus.

Quite happy to get those from hotter climes.

But we should be capable of doing more.

And I also think that the market garden sector, which has been a bit neglected, is worth having a look at as well.

Do you have any targets?

Governments are big on targets.

increasing the production of British fruit and veg?

We're just scoping all of that out at the moment.

So it's too early to ask me that question, except for me to say that I think that we need to look at how we can increase our resilience by making sure that that decline in the amount of fruit and veg that is grown and sold here is stopped and reversed.

Well, we've spoken to some of the British fruit and veg growers who are now investing and buying farms overseas in West Africa, Portugal.

Do you see this as something to worry about?

Well, I think the resilience in fruit and veg is also about importing.

But I also want to see us growing more of our own and being able to grow more of our own, maybe having a new generation of growers that are enthusiastic about growing fruit and veg in this country.

So I think there's a balance between those things.

I mean, Senegal and Portugal, they are about the things we could grow here mostly.

I mean, what we also heard from growers is that the loss of funding from their producer organizations, you know, which was an EU program.

Smaller growers struggling to stay in business and worried about industry consolidation.

You know, does that situation bother you?
