I didn't find the experience fun, but I found it was like being able to

see myself, I guess, in a character or see a character that had aspects of myself and just sort of walk around and circle my own experience but in her world.

So, yeah, I found it fascinating and quite satisfying.

Well, earlier I was speaking about making room for the reader, and I think that a short novel can do that very well.

I mean, not all of them do, but, you know, this might sound like an easy answer, but when I was a child, I was in a family of 10 children.

How?

And I was one of the youngest.

And I remember when I was about 12, I used to talk endlessly about my dreams, you know, my nighttime dreams.

and tell these long convoluted stories.

And I remember my sister saying to me one day, you need to learn to summarise.

And, you know, I do think that that was a moment where I realised, yeah, you've got to really be on the ball and hold your audience.

And a lot of books I read, to be honest, I feel like there's filler in them and I'm just sort of waiting, you know, I'm waiting through parts of them.

I'm not sure why they're that long, but a lot of longer books don't need to be as long as they are.
