U.S.

consumer sentiment improved marginally amid lingering worries about the labor market and the rising cost of living.

The University of Michigan's Consumer Sentiment Index increased to 57.3 this month from a final reading of 56.4 in January.

That is the highest since August of 2025.

But the director of the index says recent monthly increases have been small and the overall level of sentiment remains low from a historical perspective.

Meantime, the survey's measure of consumer expectations for inflation over the next year fell to 3.5% this month from 4% in January.
