People who can get near the areas are trying to drive food trucks with roast chickens and things to give food to the fire officers.
And especially farmers in the area are wanting to help with their big trucks that can transport large volumes of water.
So there's a great, on a human level, a great sense of solidarity with the fire services.
That is for sure important.
There's an element of inequality in terms of who is affected and who's not affected.
And of course, there have been over 240 houses destroyed in some villages.
And some people are saying, did our houses get destroyed in order to save other areas of the country?
You know, were there enough people down here fighting for us?
Do the authorities care enough?
And those are questions without really answers at the moment.
But
fundamentally the fire services and there've been over 90 injuries by services and the fire services themselves have been saying do we have enough proper respiratory protection that's required for this type of work you know they've been taking their own risks and many have had to be evacuated because they were injured and what about civilian injuries have any people died or been hurt by these fires
No, and that is what the fire service, yes, that's what the fire service and the government are highlighting.
And part of the reason for these huge evacuations from areas that are bordering the fire area, suburban areas which wouldn't normally be evacuated in this type of wildfire in a forest, the prefect is very, very serious about making sure that's happening to try and avoid deaths.
One of the biggest issues of this fire is the toxic smoke with fine particles which is blowing across France and there's a very poor air quality in the region where the fire is, which is a very big region, but that smoke is also blowing across France on the wind and depending on how the wind blows...
People in areas, even in central France, towards eastern France, have warned that they can smell smoke and have called into the fire service saying, is there a fire?
The French prime minister's office has made sure that they have been sent millions now of FFP2 masks.
Many people are wearing those on days where you can really smell the smoke.
And even if you can't
actually smell burning smoke.
