I hadn't seen her.
I wasn't allowed to move around that much because when I would move, my heart rate would spike.
So one day my mum borrowed a wheelchair and she took me down to see my sister and we stayed for a couple of minutes.
And that was basically the first time I'd seen her and figured out, hey, you're also injured.
And
Because as a 10-year-old, you're very self-absorbed.
Like, this is all about me.
Why is no one coming to visit me when they're visiting her type of thing?
And so it was a very disconnective experience to be so far away from one another.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So her injuries were obviously more structural in that she basically had to learn to walk again.
She had a back brace.
She still experiences chronic pain to this day.
And she had a much longer physical recovery than I did.
On my side of things, I mean...
My physical recovery wasn't fast.
I think you couldn't see my injuries the same way that you could see, say, my sister's injuries.
So my heart rate was the main issue that if it got too high, I was at risk of having a heart attack.
And I was an extremely competitive and sporty kid.
