So the CFPB says that the credit reporting firms are closing consumer complaints faster and offering less relief.

consumers.

So as far as the regulator is concerned, one of the reasons why this is an important issue is because if these complaints are being closed quickly, then there's questions around like how seriously are they being taken and how much relief are consumers able to get when there is a mistake on their credit reports.

I think something just worth pointing out here is that another thing that in general my sources within the credit reporting sector have shared with me over some time now is that one of the reasons why information that consumers file disputes about isn't removed from credit reports is because they say that oftentimes it involves a consumer disputing negative information that's actually legitimate.

And so the other thing to keep in mind is because you're filing a dispute with one credit reporting firm doesn't necessarily mean that the issue isn't just going to be addressed by all three major credit reporting firms.
matched
So there is a separate site for filing Equifax disputes, Experian disputes, and TransUnion disputes.
matched
Sometimes consumers might find that they have an error on one of their credit reports, but not all of them.
matched
So it's important to contact the credit reporting firm and the lender associated with the erroneous account.
