So since then, Fidelity, which is the largest 401k provider in the country, announced last spring that it would make Bitcoin available to the 25,000 401k plans that use it as a 401k administrator. matched
And more recently, we've seen both Fidelity and the small company on the West Coast that was the first to announce plans to add cryptocurrency to its 401k matched
We've seen both of those companies say very recently that they actually went live with their cryptocurrency offerings and that companies are actually starting to use those offerings. matched
Well, I think in the case of both of these companies, both Fidelity and this very small company called For Us All, which is in San Francisco, which focuses on mainly small companies, many of them in the tech industry. matched
I think for both Fidelity and for For Us All, this is sort of a competitive advantage for them within the 401k industry. matched
It differentiates them. matched
It shows that, you know, they can add an asset class that apparently a lot of employees still are eager to invest in, especially maybe younger employees in tech related industries. matched
So it provides, you know, a certain group of employers, companies and their employees with something that they are eager to add to their 401k plan. matched
Yes, in both the case of Fidelity and For Us All, the initiative allows people to invest directly in cryptocurrency through the 401k. matched
But there are certain kind of limits that both of these companies are establishing. matched
In the case of For Us All, they're allowing people to invest about 5% of each payroll contribution that goes into the 401k can go into its cryptocurrency offering. matched
In the case of Fidelity, it's 20%. matched
Companies that offer 401k plans are sort of, first of all, the 401k world is sort of notoriously slow to change. matched
And I think that a lot of employers are looking at this with some degree of skepticism or trepidation, you might say. matched
There's a lot of litigation in the 401k world where participants in 401k plans will sue their plans for things including allegedly high fees. matched
So I think a lot of employers are very wary about adding cryptocurrency to their plans, given this backdrop of litigation. matched
Also, the Labor Department, which is the regulator for 401k plans, has expressed a high degree of concern about matched
