Flag used to go up in the old days and there wasn't VAR.
The ref blew the play dead immediately because the ref made the decision.
There is no review.
But now when the flag goes up, we watch the next 10 seconds of soccer happen and then they're like, goal!
And then, oh no, the flag was up.
Yeah.
And we see that with a ton of goals now.
They get called back because they know they have VAR as the safety net.
They're letting extra things play out.
So we're seeing more almost goals that, again, would not have been goals ever because the referee did put his hand up.
And so I think we only look at the times when VAR gets it wrong.
Again, if you want to debate offside rule and where should the line be, that's a totally different debate.
But VAR, I still think, is good at adjudicating that.
Brian Phillips did write a great piece, though, for The Ringer, which I enjoyed reading on why VAR sucks.
And I don't agree with him, but I always read him.
I hate VAR.
Different offside rules would be fun to referee, huh?
But no, the rule is basically, the Wenger rule is like Arsene Wenger, Arsenal's former manager, wants to make it so that any part of your body is in line with the last defender you are on.
Real Madrid is a loser.
