So I was like, Caleb, you know you only got one down left here, right?
Maybe you should have tried something right there.
He's just out here pure pocket passer at that point.
And the pocket extends all the way to the opposing end zone.
Now, that's the first time I've ever seen a quarterback stay in the pocket but run 30 yards in the opposite direction as the pocket extends backwards.
So he would not have been able to get away with an intentional grounded because he ran straight back.
But think about the presence of mind.
And everything that he's evaluating β
in that moment, because he bursts.
And I mean, Caleb's speed has certainly been a big part of the storyline of his elusiveness this season.
Just his straight line speed is exceptional.
But he knows, I've got to get this ball off.
And so as the pocket breaks down, and one of the reasons, Marshall, to one of your earlier questions too, the Rams did a really impressive job of keeping a funnel around the pocket.
There were normally edge defenders and linebackers screaming toward the sideline, so Caleb couldn't have as many opportunities.
to extend the play laterally.
So there you had edge defenders from L.A.
who were screaming up the field.
So Caleb didn't have the opportunity to run laterally as he normally likes to escape to.
So he bursts straight back.
And you're just wondering how far backwards is he going to run and how big of a risk is he taking?
