yeah it's been massive for me because i remember a few years ago when i first um came to the blues and played super rugby um yeah i had to go 150 into every contact just just to break even sometimes um and yeah now it's a bit different but i also think um in terms of the explosive strength um has been big for me too so not just letting it be dead weight that i've got
actually why that's useful for me.
Yeah it's my approach to professionalism but I also think it's the German in me.
In a way I think many people would say that about my dad as well so I think that's where I get it from and I think there's many Germans out there that are similar you know with the whole discipline and being hard on yourself and yeah just trying as hard as possible to be the best version of yourself so
I definitely think that that's something that I was sort of just born with, to be honest, from my dad, because in all aspects of life, I'm pretty hard on myself.
I just want to make sure that every day I try and be the best version of myself.
I mean, it sounds cliche, but I think it's genuinely what's happening within me right now.
And I think, yeah, that's the way that I go about my work in terms of rugby as well.
I want to nail everything.
And although rugby is not a perfect game, it never is, I always strive to be as close to perfect as possible.
Yeah, it's a bit of a double-edged sword to be honest because there'll be a game where I do a whole bunch of good things but then I get so caught up on the few things that I didn't do so well.
So yeah, I think that's a work on of mine is making sure that I balance it out a bit and not get too caught up in the
and the stuff that I could have done better and realise actually all the stuff that I've done well and play to those strengths too.
So make sure that I don't go away from what makes me as a rugby player who I am, which is my strengths, and I keep working on those while there's obviously different parts of the game that can be developed too.
Yeah, for sure.
There's definitely times where I remind myself of how far I've come.
And it's not so much myself that does that, actually.
A lot of it is my family and my partner telling me as well that sometimes you need to zoom out and actually look at where you've come from to see how far you've gone.
and see what you've done to get to um where you are and yeah it's pretty like now when i think back about it it's it's pretty cool to think about knowing that i was a nine or ten year old german playing rugby and playing rugby in frankfurt and idolizing the all blacks to now being here playing for the blues so yeah it's a special time for me and yeah whenever i look back like that it's it's pretty cool especially with my older brother we grew up playing rugby together and
He's definitely one of my biggest supporters.
