Well, I haven't actually spoken to him, but that's what I assume it's for.

Crazy experience.
I was in the gym on Monday and Vern comes up to me, taps me on the shoulder and says, look, Paddy's no good this week, so you'll be captain.
And at first I was sort of like, oh my God, this has come around fast and unexpected.
But then, yeah, those feelings or those emotions were overtaken by
yeah just gratitude pretty quickly because not a lot of people um get to be the captain of the blues um so yeah that's something that wasn't even on my mind really and then when it came around so quickly um it was overwhelming at first but then i've got a great i've got a or i had a i've got i've had a great group of leaders um around me at the blues sam dairy finlay christian obviously patty although he wasn't playing um he he helped me out heaps i've got people like offer so
there's heaps of leaders in the group which um yeah helped take some of the load off my shoulders um but yeah i really enjoyed it obviously loads of learnings because being captain at npc um is one thing but being captain at super rugby level um is a whole nother but yeah i really enjoyed it and
The leaders that I've learned of have shown me that the most efficient way to lead is lead by example.
So making sure that you put your own performance first and that's half the job done really.
Like if you're playing well yourself, then you know that the boys are going to follow you.
And then it's maybe just a few words here and there whenever you feel like the group needs it.
Helped me hugely and I've actually had a few good catch-ups with Paddy about it because although it is a different level, there's a lot of learnings that we can take from the Auckland NPC season into any other campaign that we're a part of because it's cliche for a reason that you learn from the lows.
And that was definitely a low was the Auckland season.
It was quite disappointing.
But yes, sitting down with a few of the people from Auckland Rugby after the season, we look back and the amount of learnings that we took out of that season was massive for me.
