People who are sexually active, singles who are sexually active report lower attachment avoidance.
That means that they're generally more comfortable with closeness and intimacy.
And then the other thing we found was that these singles who were sexually active reported more perceived mate value.
And what that is is essentially a sense of how desirable you think yourself to be as a mate or as a partner, sexual or romantic.
So folks that were having casual sex saw themselves as more desirable.
And the last thing we found was that unsurprisingly, these singles who are having casual sex are also more sexually satisfied.
So they're kind of getting what they want out of the interaction in terms of their sexual goals.
now this goes against this common stereotype that casual sex is going to make you feel bad about yourself it looks like casual sex can be a confidence boost were you surprised by that finding um yes and no i think so much of the previous research has focused on uh college students so in like college hookup culture and it's kind of a unique um context right there's
Typically, it's more common to have alcohol involved in the hookup.
There's less sexual experience.
Folks are younger.
So our population is a bit different.
They're older.
Most of them are outside of school or university.
But at the same time, we know that having sex generally is associated... The more sex you have in a partnered context, the more satisfied you are.
And if you're...
afraid of intimacy, like people who are when they're avoidant in terms of attachment, they're not going to be drawn to, you know, an intimate sexual experience.
So it's not surprising that what we found was that, you know, folks who are having casual sex are more satisfied and are more comfortable with closeness.
Yeah, not really.
This was one of our key findings.
