I am an associate professor of international sport management at Harriet Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.

I'm mostly interested in performance enhancement as well as the overlap of the performance world with well-being culture.
My main motivator is that I want to make sport better and safer for athletes.
The foundational part of that is getting rid of binary black and white good-bad thinking and really looking at the reality of what

So I'm a runner and I was training for my first marathon while I was entering my PhD proposal stage.

But when I was training for that first marathon, I was running with this running group.
It was these older men who were much more experienced at the marathon.
And we were out on a long run.
One of them handed me one of those little electrolyte gels and said, try this.
It'll give you some energy.
So I took it.
And then 10 minutes later, just hurling my guts out on the side of the road.
It turns out it did not agree with me.
Yeah.
Afterwards, I was like, why the f*** would I have taken candy from a stranger?
