Okay, so the way that they've been training these models now, now that they've consumed all of the text on the internet, which felt like an impossible task, but if anyone can do it, it's those ghouls, right?

So many tokens.

they're taking these rare books and scanning them and then destroying them.

So their argument is that they're forced to do this because they're creating a replacement copy, which is allowed in some way, I guess, that doesn't violate copyright.

So it's been ruled that what they do is, I think, quote-unquote, inarguably transformative use of these texts.

So they can scan the texts

Uh, but they can't find a way to regurgitate it.

And then they, they can't keep a copy of it unless that copy is, um, a replacement of the original bot copy or something like that.

So they have to destroy it.

That's their argument.

I actually don't think that there's a lot of legal argument for, for that, right?

Because you can archive a backup copy or whatever, right?

Um, for your own use.

There's a lot of video game IP law that gets caught up in this one.

But I believe that's the case.

I'm not a lawyer.

I'm sure a lawyer, especially one who has a lot of experience in copyright law, will let me know I'm wrong.

But primarily the reason they do this is so that the other models don't get access to their books.
