times felt lonely and about a quarter of people um felt frequently lonely.
So
pretty um common at the end of life among seriously ill older adults.
You know, it didn't change as much as we thought it would.
We we thought that this was something that was really gonna escalate in the last months um or even last year of life, but it stayed relatively flat, still at a really high prevalence, but um pretty flat.
And I think what we our sense is that maybe people start to change what is adequate for for themselves as they approach the end of life.
They're okay with not spending as much, you know, time with their friends or distant family members.
But um I think that something is still going on here, something um distressing about their social situation that they're experiencing as um the end of life approaches.
That's right.
We we um compared people to you know matched controls.
So people who are not in the end of life.
And we basically replicated the findings that Carla had before that about 40% of people who were not.
in the last years of life we're ex experiencing loneliness.
So yeah, this this does seem to be something that occurs more gradually.
We didn't pick up the exact time frame when, you know, the
maybe that switch flips.
Um, so I think we really need to think about, you know, loneliness throughout the lifespan, not just the last years of life.
How can we do things to improve improve people's well-being before, you know, they're in those last critical years?
Yeah, I would just add that um
I I think it's something we're seeing clinically, especially during the pandemic.
