we were having Googlers who didn't work at Axe take them and use them for their commute.
And we said, okay, but you have to promise, promise, promise, you're gonna keep your hands right by the steering wheel, we're gonna have cameras in the cars looking at you, no messing around,
The cars are really good, but this is like public safety, so you have to keep your hands really close to the steering wheel all the time.
You're good?
And these Googlers are like, oh, absolutely.
And these Googlers are great human beings.
They're way above the average, I think, for like diligence for human beings in general as drivers.
And within days, we saw people getting into the back seat, eating their lunch, doing their makeup.
One of them fell asleep.
And we had to stop the project because we had been assuming that humans can be backups for technology that's not quite ready.
And when the safety is this serious, that just doesn't work.
Now, we could have stopped the project.
That was a big red flag relative to what we assumed our job was, what the business was.
Now, we didn't.
we had some serious conversations, but in the end we said, oh, it was never our job to make and sell a car.
That was a mis-description of the mission.
A real mission is to transform mobility.
Like an elevator, you should just get in, say where you wanna go, and it just takes you there.
That's what these vehicles that we're working on should be.
And we worked on that for another five years,
