Operation Often was initiated around 1967 and 1968 by Dr.
Sidney Gottlieb, head of the CIA's Technical Services Division, as part of the agency's Cold War efforts to investigate investigate unconventional methods for intelligent gathering, behavioral manipulation, and psychological warfare.

Often was the successor or parallel to MKUltra, which famously tested LSD and other drugs on unwitting subjects, but it shifted focus toward the esoteric and supernatural.
The program's official mandate per declassified memos was to, quote, explore the world of black magic and quote, harness the forces of darkness, end quote, to determine if occult forces could be weaponized for operational use.
Such as influencing minds, predicting events, or disrupting enemies.

And so the point that I was going to get to is in the mindset that everything is war, they were the intelligence, you know, the intelligence apparatus was willing to investigate
Dark magic, black magic, occult power, consulting Satanists, consulting these dark rituals to see if they could weaponize it.
And of course, who knows what ended up happening to that.
Eventually the program was stopped, but maybe, you know, like did it continue?
