The basic idea is that the most cyclical parts of the economy, whether they're durable goods, manufacturing, autos, stuff like that, business investment, construction of data centers, or what have you,
these parts of the economy also tend to be the most interest rate sensitive.
So that's why the Fed kind of becomes the tip of the spear.
Why use the interest rate to counteract the business cycle?
Because these really cyclical, if the economy's overheating, then you raise the interest rate to try to cool it down and ease inflation.
If it looks like you're teetering on recession, then
Then you reduce the interest rate and try to get people buying more cars, building more houses, doing more business investment.
When it goes wrong, the economists call that the divine coincidence.
