Now, that doesn't speculate anything on a contract.
We talked to Jason about that yesterday.
Buster Olney put out a report in ESPN yesterday that said that the negotiations are basically in a good place.
I want to make sure that I get the verbiage of what Olney said correct.
But we know that Ohio's reported a couple weeks ago that there were talks.
What Olney reported is that they are deep in negotiations on a contract extension.
Now, what he put out there on ESPN was that the Pirates and their offer, at least to Griffin,
was right in the range of eight years and $111 million.
They wanted to rival what the Corbin Carroll contract was in Arizona.
But Griffin's camp, they want the Roman Anthony contract, which I think you and I both agree makes more sense.
Which was 8 and 130.
He had played two months in the majors already before he signed that contract.
I don't really care about that.
So then why?
Were they trying to build up buzz for the home opener?
It's not like they needed to.
So could this be the breaking point in them realizing, hey, maybe an extension actually isn't going to get done?
All it took was 14 at-bats.
Well, and just because he's being promoted now, that doesn't mean that the contract extension talks are done.
I mean, if he comes up and hits three home runs in the first week.
