The Katmai National Park Bears are global celebrities, and Fat Bear Week is about celebrating how plump the animals get from feasting on massive sockeye salmon runs.
On Tuesday, 16 hometown rivals will square off in a bracket-style competition for the title of fattest bear.
Sarah Bruce is a park ranger at Katmai.
There is no such thing as too fat of a bear.
The fatter a bear is, the healthier that bear is.
The 16 heavyset hopefuls will face off in the competition, which opens for online voting at fatbearweek.org Tuesday and runs through September 29th.

It's the first time Chunk has been dubbed the fattest bear in Katmai National Park and Preserve.
He has dark brown fur, a scar across his muzzle, and, most notably, a broken jaw that staff say will never fully heal.
Katmai Park Ranger Sarah Bruce says staff didn't know if he'd still be able to feast on salmon, but he persevered and ate so much he now weighs over 1,200 pounds.
His victory was declared after he triumphed in a matchup after matchup in a bracket that drew a record number of voters from around the world, according to the National Park Service.
