Yeah, so just a few minutes ago, Senator Sharon Keoghan, Independent Senator Sharon Keoghan, said that she recently heard from schoolchildren who told her that they were spending 68 hours a day on social media platforms.
And a lot of the content that they came across was sometimes misogynistic.
Sometimes it was violent.
Sometimes it was sexual.
Sometimes it was suicidal content.
And she asked all the representatives here from the social media giants, what are they actually doing?
to stop children from accessing this harmful content.
But Richard Collar from TikTok, he says that they specifically use moderation tools to stop harmful material appearing as soon as possible.
And he said that 98% of this material is removed.
before children get to see it.
Now, that still means that 2% children are still accessing 2%.
And one thing that struck me here is that there's 100 million videos uploaded to TikTok every day.
2% looks like a lot in that context.
It can be a lot that children may be accessing.
But the representative from TikTok also said that they're doing more and more every week to try and stop this harmful content from appearing online.
