And there's one on this list that particularly changed my way of thinking as a reader.
So I was involved with the announcement of the shortlist recently, and the winner is going to be announced on the 13th of May.
I thought you were just about to announce the winner.
No, that would be very startling for all of us.
I have no idea who's won this year, the 2026 Stella Prize.
But why don't we just do a quick rundown of the shortlist in alphabetical order.
The first, Evelyn Araluen's The Rot, published by UQP.

Geraldine Brooks' Memorial Days, that is a memoir of grief and it's a story of the writer Geraldine Brooks sort of circling around again and again to the day when her husband, the journalist Tony Horvitz...
And so it's trying to face this terrible moment.
But it's also about other forms of grief and loss in that she returns to Australia.
She confronts the sort of grief at the heart of the country.
And it's a non-linear story.
story as well and beautifully, beautifully written.
Miranda Darling, her book Fire Weather follows on from an earlier book around the same character, a character called Winona Dalloway.
