The other thing that often comes up here on the bookshelf is books that play around with form and that are sort of hybrid forms.
Marika Sosnovsky's 58 Facets on Violence and the Law is a book that is a combination of a family history of stories about the Holocaust, stories about history
Israel but also a contemporary, a very active contemporary engagement with Syria, with law, with the violence of law, with the question of checkpoints and how they operate as a space in between law and belonging.
And it's such an interesting work that is, well, it's non-fiction but it's also memoir and it's also a sort of legal analysis and it's all in there in this book.
That's called 58 Facets.
And then there's one more work of fiction on this stellar shortlist and that's Tasma Walton's I Am Nanat Garuk, which is a book, Tony, that I found so stressful to read because it begins...
with a sort of a camp full of Aboriginal women in the 19th century and this beautiful, tender image.
And as you read it, you just know that something is going to happen and that these forces are going to come and take at least one of these women, and in fact, many of these women children, away.
I totally agree.
I mean, I said it was confronting.
It is also utterly engaging.
And so they are the six books on the Stellar shortlist.
The winner will be announced on the 13th of May.
