So if you plant carrots in your garden and you let them grow all summer long,

technically they shouldn't go to seed right then they go dormant and then they go to seed the second year by two biennial two-year growth cycle right um so sugar beets are like that so the goal of sugar beets is essentially plant them as soon as you can when conditions are fit

and let them grow as long as you can to get the biggest crop possible.

That's kind of how sugar beets work.

So time is important with sugar beets.

It's not like there's a specific, like, filling time, like with beans and stuff.

So sugar beets, it's just a time thing.

You know, we harvest them for the root.

We harvest them for the sugar.

And so that's kind of how that process works.

Do you plant them two years ahead or—

Okay, yeah, that's where I was going with this.

So we plant sugar beet seed, right?

Sugar beet seed is like the size of a piece of sorghum.

They're very small.

Plant them like an inch, inch and a quarter deep.

So, you know, you can imagine how it's like finding moisture for sugar beet seed in the spring some years.

It can be difficult with that small of seed.

So it's important for us to have accurate planters, accurate depth, and, you know, be able to put seed in at the proper time.
