Maybe it was a little controlling, but I think for the most part, it was relatively healthy.

And then I think as the years going on, you know, like everyone just lived in

their suburbs, you know, wore modest but regular clothes.

Yeah.

And I think that's what makes it confusing, because I think it took me ages after I left to even call it a cult, because it was just like, oh, it's just like a strict church, you know.

And that's kind of what it was, except that I think the difference between a church and a cult is that

you're going to lose like your entire identity and family and community and God's love and your parents' love is so dependent on whether you attend this church or not.

And to the point that when I left 13 years ago, my mother hasn't spoken to me ever again and will probably never speak to me ever again.

And I think that's the difference between a cult and, you know, maybe just something that's a bit more strict and closed off.

Yeah, it definitely is.

I think, you know, and I think no matter how old you are, I think you always especially need your mum.

And yeah, I mean, even as a 40-year-old woman now, I'm just, I feel very thankful that I found other older women to fill that role for me and have definitely far exceeded, I think, the love that my mum has.

and safety that my mum ever gave me.

So I feel very thankful for that.

But, yeah, I feel sad for her almost in a way too because I think she's missing out on me and my life.

So it's almost a sadness for her and there's so many moments that I think, you know, I think my mum –

When she joined the cult, she was only 19 and she was at university.

And don't quote me on this, but I'm 99% sure she was studying literature or something at university and she wanted to be a writer.
