They probably need to update that.
But in the meantime, can they tweak the setup of it?
if you're a team with a history of doing it well like mclaren you're going to be more confident about just throwing stuff at the car and thinking it's probably going to work the other teams i think you've got to tread carefully not do too much too soon and without that bahrain milestone you mentioned it's a much more difficult thing because you just haven't got that oh yeah we started at this level we've got to this level and now we can we can be confident of going up to here you've kind of got to make a big jump in one go that's always risky
It's a classic stick-or-twist scenario in Game of Cards, isn't it?
And if you're the teams that are doing quite well and you've got a lot to lose...
Mercedes, as you mentioned, Scott, being the best example, you're definitely going to be inclined to not twist.
And as Ed mentioned, you can't afford to not be in the game making gains because otherwise you just fall back.
But if I was Mercedes, I'd be much more focused at the moment on the engine regulations and the tweaks there because that's the main source of their advantage.
And that's the bit that's being messed with the most across the board.
That's where they have capacity to be caught out if the stuff they've designed around gets paired back.
Whereas they know they've got a little bit of an advantage on the car side as well.
McLaren basically admits that using the same power unit.
So not that you can be complacent in that regard, but if you have to prioritise something, if I was leading the championship like them, I'd be defensive about the main source of my advantage and making sure that you've worked everything out there in terms of what you need to reconfigure rather than focusing too much on chasing car performance gains that you don't really need to rely on at this point.
Well, one reason might be Ferrari, because there's another element too, which is just the circuit dependent stuff.
Certain teams go better at certain tracks, have a better idea of those demands.
Also, their cars and engine packages might just generically suit that track better.
We know Miami is going to be a more energy rich circuit, easier for harvesting.
So...
and a lower speed track in terms of the corner profiles than say suzuka so you'd expect ferrari regardless of upgrades as long as there's not a mess up they should be relatively more competitive there than they probably were in suzuka so even if they don't change the car too much compared to say a mclaren they could just naturally be more in the mix because they get off the line really well
and their smaller turbo configuration and the way their car is just suits the track better.
