Like he knows...

He knows he doesn't like F1 2026, particularly on these amazing classic high speed tracks that basically are the worst for this formula.

And obviously Spa definitely fits into that classification.

He doesn't want to stay at home.

Yeah, he doesn't.

doesn't want to stay at home do no driving obviously this is a you know home race for him big army of uh verstappen fans watching him here we i think pleased that he put on a good show made it onto the podium for them but he's just trying to think compartmentalize this aspect that he really doesn't like and just try to focus on the job because you either do that or you have to get out yep and i guess he's just decided on balance you know what i still i still want to be here and i still want to be racing even if i don't like the cars doesn't hurt the bank balance

But it's noticeable that he's more animated by those external activities.

So it's very clear to me on Thursday, and obviously all the drivers speak to us,

Fair enough, he doesn't want to answer questions about McLaren and his management talking to them and whatnot.

And he doesn't want to shut it down, but he doesn't want to indulge the speculation or bother talking about it.

And obviously Verstappen's developed this aura now where he will just flat out refuse to talk about stuff that he's not bothered with on a given weekend.

But as soon as he's asked about the McLaren driver that is coming into his development stable, family friend, you see his eyes kind of light up this stuff that he's doing outside of F1 with McLaren.

simulators and driver development and GT racing you can see there's a real passion there it's like he's the natural heir to Helmut Marko in some ways like I think he gets a genuine kick out of this kind of nurturing or scouting for talent yeah and I think we know our enthusiasm is about motorsport and racing and yeah

in the coming years I think that gives him then maybe a way to enjoy the F1 a bit more because he knows he's got other stuff around this is obviously Nürburgring feeding into that too in the 24 hours it's all part of kind of creating that

I guess, satisfaction elsewhere.

That means he can come here and do the job to the best of his ability without, you know, just getting down on his luck.

And I think you saw a pretty strong Verstappen performance all weekend, really.

He had a lot of help.

Obviously, Red Bull were effectively kind of one-carring most of this weekend with Hadjar taking penalties and whatnot and then being used as a...

as a tow for the max verstappen caravan as edgy put it yesterday in our in car insights podcast and that was the key to it because he got on the front row when really that car belonged on probably row three and obviously the track position as we saw with the clerk when he got ahead of antonelli that was really important in terms of being able to grind out maybe a better result than otherwise would have been available
