Don't miss it.
That was Dad, always looking for an opportunity right in front of him.
Not next year, not someday, today.
One of Dad's happiest memories wasn't a football memory at all.
It was watching the children become parents and seeing the grandchildren grow.
The older I get, the more I realise Dad's greatest legacy isn't what he achieved,
It's what he passed on.
The values, the perspective, the example.
Dad often spoke about a saying from football, when it's your turn to go, you go.
When MND came calling, Dad didn't ask why.
He didn't step back, he stepped forward.
Because if he expected others to fight, he knew he had to fight too.
It was his turn to step up, and that he did.
Not for himself, for everyone who would come after him, for a world free of MND.
And in doing so, he showed us all exactly what WITO looks like.
No matter the odds, no matter the diagnosis, choose to fight, choose your attitude, choose to smile, choose to do something.
Because the mark of a person isn't what they say, it's what they do.
And dad did plenty.
So today, while many people will rightly remember dad for what he achieved, I hope we also remember the man behind it all.
The dad, the husband, the mate, the pops, the chocolate biscuit protector, the man who taught us all that life will test us all, but we always get to choose our response.
