Having a slave, no disrespect meant, was like having a washing machine in your house.
You don't say, oh, look, you've got a washing machine when you go around to your friend's house because everyone has a washing machine.
And I'm a trained soldier and gladiator, so I'm not going to be a slave.
And if you ever read that or see that, that's just modern interpretation.
I mean, you had Roman authors talking about slaves being human beings and having feelings and you could like them and so on.
And you should treat them well and so on and so on, you know, to varying degrees.
And we know of many slaves who were freed by their owners and given lots of money.
But those owners did not try and abolish slavery.
They just treated individual slaves really kindly.
