But when they did, they missed a crucial fact.

The politics of resentment are a politics of place and remoteness.

And if you don't attend to that, people elect a strongman who favors them over others.

You get Giuliani.

You get Trump.

The revenge of the places that don't matter.

The reality is we're stuck together.

And if we don't want to keep getting periodically rocked by the forgotten places, we're left with one option.
